NEW EXHIBITS FOR 2010

  • Day of the Week (see below) is completed with Saturday, "Baking Day"
  • In the Ulysses Room, "The Hoffmire Exhibit"

Silver Dan
Silver Dan started his life as a harness model in the window of a Trumansburg store in the early 1900s. This year, our dappled gray steed is ready to pull a Democrat Wagon (donated by William and Laura Smith) to market. The wagon was used by the Fred N. Smith family of Christian Hill near Perry City Road.

The Work-A-Day Week
In 2007 we featured “Monday – Wash Day” and “Tuesday – Ironing Day.” The 2008 exhibit continued with “Wednesday – Sewing Day” and “Thursday – Shopping Day,” replete with artifacts used in those chores in days gone by.

Permanent Exhibits

Firefighting in Trumansburg
This new permanent exhibit in the Ulysses Room, unveiled in April 2007, is a tribute to the history of the fire departments of the village that has several times been ravaged by fire.

Agriculture
This exhibit debuted in 2005 and includes more than 200 items ranging in size from a Groton Carriage Company sleigh to small nails produced for the original Halsey House in their on-site blacksmith shop.

The Ulysses Room
This exhibit encompasses items of interest from throughout the town. It includes an audio presentation of Abner Treman’s life, as well as fire department and telephone company artifacts.

Costumes
This collection includes more than 300 vintage hats, scores of women’s dresses dating to the mid 1800s, and various other items of apparel that have been donated by families in the local area. Lydia Sears started this collection in the 1950s under the “Costume Bureau.”

Historic Photos
This collection includes photos of people, places and events from throughout the town dating to the late 1800s. Photo research may be scheduled by appointment.

Genealogy & Local History Library
The reference room includes local history books, maps, genealogy records, and family histories. Research may be scheduled by appointment.
