Willow Creek History

Willow Creek Train Depot 1910

The Goodwins built a mill in 1797 at Goodwin's Point. Soon a distillery and general store were added. In 1830 Goodwin's was an important market and shipping point on the Lake. Samuel Vann was a boss mason and helped build many buildings in the area. He came here in 1812 from New Jersey. The first school meeting on record for District No. 11 was held Dec. 4, 1813. A log school house 20' x 24' was built in 1814 across from the later Willow Creek school. James Colegrove built the house where William Agard lives. Asapha King built boats at Willow Creek Point from 1850's70's. A post office was established July 1, 1873 and discontinued Sept. 30, 1913. The Webster Success Club was organized in the fall of 1902. In the summer of 1911 they erected a marker at the spot where on Sept. 23, 1779, the Third New Hampshire Regiment under the command of Col. Dearborn established camp during the Sullivan Expedition. William T. Vann and Parsons Payne served as Lehigh Valley Railroad station agents at Willow Creek.
